Full front entrance rebuilds, not just a door swap. Widen the opening, add sidelights, replace the jamb and sill, install a Bespoke Doors architectural or StormBloc door as the centrepiece. Structural work and custom door delivered as one coordinated project across Melbourne metro. From $5,445 installed.
An entrance transformation is a full structural rebuild of the front entry, not just swapping a door out of an existing frame. It typically includes:
The whole entry is redesigned and rebuilt as one coordinated project, not a stack of trade appointments. Bespoke Doors manufactures the door + jamb + sill in Moorabbin; Doors Replaced coordinates the structural work and installation.
| Scenario | Best answer |
|---|---|
| Existing frame, sidelights, and jamb are in good condition; door itself is dated | Door-only replacement |
| The entry looks small or undersized for the house | Transformation (widen opening + oversized door) |
| Dated 70s/80s aluminium sidelights or narrow flanking glass that doesn't work | Transformation (new sidelights + door as a matched set) |
| Jamb or sill is rotted, warped, or was never quite right | Transformation (new jamb + sill + door) |
| Just want a nicer front door in the existing setup | Door-only replacement |
| Front entry is the architectural centrepiece of a renovation or new build | Transformation (full design + structural rebuild) |
| Character home where the entry proportions have never worked | Transformation (correct the proportions properly) |
| Rental property, budget-focused, existing entry functional | Door-only replacement |
The honest test: if the CURRENT entry framing looks fundamentally wrong or dated even with the best possible door hung in it, you need a transformation. If the framing is fine and only the door is letting the entry down, door-only replacement is the smarter spend.
Existing entry is a narrow door with no sidelights (or dated flanking glass). Opening gets widened, new sidelights added either side, jamb replaced, larger BD architectural door installed as the centrepiece. Typical spend $8,000-$14,000 installed. Best for character homes and 70s/80s builds where the original entry undersells the facade.
Existing entry gets fully rebuilt around an oversized FritsJurgens pivot door, typically 1.2-1.5m wide by 2.4-3.6m tall. Floor and ceiling anchor points prepared, opening widened accordingly, structural head reframed if needed. Typical spend $12,000-$18,000+ installed. Best for architect-designed homes and premium renovations where the front entry is the "wow" moment.
Existing entry has weather damage, rotted jamb, warped sill, swollen door. Full replacement with StormBloc weather-resistant door + Merbau sill + treated timber jamb. Zero maintenance thereafter. Typical spend $5,445-$9,000 installed. Best for coastal / exposed / high-humidity Melbourne properties where the previous entry couldn't handle the conditions.
Transformation pricing depends on the amount of structural work and the door specification. Rough bands:
| Transformation type | Typical installed range |
|---|---|
| StormBloc-based transformation, minor structural work | $5,445 – $9,000 |
| Architectural timber transformation with sidelights | $8,000 – $14,000 |
| Pivot statement transformation (System One or M+) | $12,000 – $18,000 |
| Oversized architectural pivot with full structural rebuild | $15,000 – $25,000+ |
Pricing includes: the BD-manufactured door, custom jamb and sill, hardware, install labour by Doors Replaced, weatherproofing, and warranty. Pricing excludes: any council approvals if required (rare), painting the door if it's a timber choice (customer arranges own painter), and any works beyond the immediate entrance envelope.
For most transformations, no. Standard opening widening within existing framing, sidelight addition, jamb replacement, door installation, none of that typically requires council approval. Exceptions: heritage overlay properties, load-bearing structural changes, or transformations that alter the building envelope significantly. We flag any approval requirements at quote stage so there are no surprises.
Yes, subject to strata approval. We provide the documentation strata boards typically require, dimensions, materials, structural certification if requested. Turnaround can be longer due to approval processes.
StormBloc can be specified to meet higher BAL ratings. Custom architectural timber doors can be BAL-compliant depending on species selection and construction. Specify BAL requirements at enquiry stage.
Rarely worthwhile. The cost saving of retaining a jamb is small compared to the total transformation cost, and existing jambs are usually dated or unable to accommodate the new door design cleanly. Best to replace as part of the transformation.
Manufacturing is available Australia-wide via our flat-pack kit format (door, jamb, sill pre-assembled in Moorabbin, disassembled and crated for the buyer's installer). Installation via Doors Replaced is limited to Melbourne metro (~30km around Moorabbin). Outside that area, the customer arranges their own installer.
